Hurricane Humberto

Post by 58limited »

Drat, this tropical strom that wasn't supposed to strengthen became a hurricane with winds of 80-85mph. The eye is currently passing about 15 miles west of me. So far I still have power and everything is fine. Its 3:30 am.

I am fine, only a little tree damage. I bought a standby generator after Hurricane Rita, but didn't install it until two weeks ago (I know I'm the king of procrastinators). There was a problem with the herz output so I called for warranty service. They had to cancel twice, including Wednesday just before Humberto hit. They came this morning and tuned it and I now have power - utility power is still out to most of Port Arthur and the surrounding area. This generator can even run my central A/C so I'm happy now. The eye passed about 10 miles west of me, so we got the bad side.

My power was out about two weeks after Rita. I only came into town to clean out the fridges. I stayed with my parents in Houston, and flew to Michigan to visit a college buddy (already scheduled before Rita hit). Michigan was nice - 40s at night and 60s/70s during the day.

I currently have the A/C off so I can do laundry, but as soon as the house gets to 80 degrees, I'll stop the laundry and turn the A/C back on
