Hello,
I have never personally seen insulation put on the balancer. It looks like the bolts were kept clean even though the insulation is rusty/filthy. Not necessary at all though.
I have never had an A/C car of this vintage so can't vouch for what the box material is made of.
Unless factory A/C ...

Re: valve covers
Hi,
I see this post is a couple weeks old,but it is possible to play around and get the valve cover off without removing the electrical connectors. I had more of an issue with the power steering pump being in the way.
The connectors do come off by gently wiggling them. It's not easy though. A bit of ...

Re: My Limited Four Door Project
Hello,
I came close to doing something like this with a 57' Roadmaster parts car I have. The wheel wells in the trunk area of the 58" 56R were rusted out and split all the way into the inside of the passenger area behind the rear seat. This area in the 57' is still in good shape. I don't know how ...

Re: My Limited Four Door Project
Hi,
Seeing your pics brought back what I was doing during Summer/Fall 2007 on my Super 56R. It stills needs some patching, but other projects took precedence in 08'. I also have a Limited like yours that has the front clip taken off and will be a repeat of what the Super has had done, except the trunk ...

Re: window glass compatibility
Hi Dvonk,
I believe the size of the glass made up the price. It took about a week or ten days to pick it up,because they were backlogged with other orders. Considering I had it out of the car and laying broken/ spider-webbed on a shelf for a few years a week was short....Lee

Re: window glass compatibility
Hello,
I had a rear side window cut for my 58' Olds sedan this past May. It is a direct interchange with my 58' Special 4dr sedan. My interchange book gives glass dimensions between all these years/models and sometimes there will be just an inch or so difference.
As 58limited stated the glass shop ...

Re: Tell about yourself: Age, location, occupation, other cars
Hi SMartin,
Looks to be a nice car to play with. Air conditioning also! I can't fully tell from your one picture, but if your inner skirts on the sides of the radiator support are solid, plus the splash pan you will be way ahead of the game. This seems to me to be a bad rust out area on these cars ...

Hi Chad,
By "power booster system" I assume you are describing the brake booster. By the way it's good to hear you are spending quality time on the B-58.
I'm looking at my 1959 manual(this one was handier to find) which describes the same as 1958 on this. In the section of "assembly of power brake ...

New shocks!
Hi All,
As much as I hate to remove original parts on a 28,000 mile car,the shocks were just about non-existent and these cars are already a soft ride. That and my wife enjoys putting 50 miles plus on the Special every Sunday by herself.
I went with modern gas shocks. The front are very easy to ...

Converting from Generator to Alternator
Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone here has converted from generator to Alternator? Although it was on my 58' Olds that the Generator died this evening, it is the same type and hook-up as the Buick. I may have enough parts to put another one together, but still contemplate a conversion.
If someone ...

Hi Group,
I've had petronix in the Special for about ten years now. I use their coil also. The only real problem was about two seasons ago the yellow wire that connects to the resistor block got frayed because I hadn't used a wire connector. It caused backfiring that blew out the big plug on the ...

Re: Rear U-Joint & Torque ball stuff
Hi Mike,
I see this thread is a week old,but if you haven't finished already pay strict attention to cleaning the torque ball mating surfaces. You will find that they are corroded and if not cleaned perfectly it will leak. I was less than careful the first one I did and had to go back and re-do it ...

1958 Buicks in Movies/Television
There is an episode of "I love Lucy" where she ends up in Mexico and somehow becomes a Matador in a bullfight. She is driving a Special convertible if my memory serves right and her husband Desi Arnaz is in a Limited. She taps into the Limited's rear bumper in one scene.
