1958 Buick Batteries

Post by dvonk »

obviously, the battery in the '58 Buick is an unusual size. ive been looking online for places that have them, but i would really like to avoid the shipping charges since they are filled with lead! does anyone know auto parts stores or battery shops that stock the 3EE size battery?

58limited, unless i am mistaken, i believe i saw a 'CarQuest' logo on the battery in your engine bay photo. ive also seen '58s on ebay with NAPA batteries... anyone have any experience or suggestions on obtaining these batteries locally?

I believe a tractor supply shop will have one. The one I had in mine when I bought it was a "Rural King"...somewhere out of Matoon, IL.

nice, i hadnt thought of Tractor Supply. i did find what i believe is the correct battery on their website, but the website does not have any details about the stock quantity in local stores. there are a few Tractor Supply stores around here, so i will check them out. thanks for the tip!

anyone else have any suggestions?

Yes, Tractor Supply has them in stock. I have also ordered them from CarQuest and O'Reilly Auto Parts. The Tractor Supply battery is a little cheaper in price.

fabulous.
do you happen to recall the number of cold cranking amps the battery has? or, to rephrase the question, does it have a sufficient amount of CCAs for a '58 starter?

As I recall, the CCA is a little on the low side but will work. The CCA of the other batteries I've bought are not too much higher. My engine has 10:1 compression. If you are keeping the motor in your Special to factory specs, it will have 9.5:1 compression, so the battery should be fine. However, I live in a warm climate. If you are up north, it might struggle in the winter.

thanks for the info. the 3EE size batteries ive seen online all seem to have a maximum of 400-500 CCA, id imagine this one is similar. i will give it a shot--im just sick the standard size battery substituting for one that actually fits the tray.
