Living Room

Living Room

I decided to make the living room a more formal room with the fireplace as a centerpiece. I moved the TV into the front guest room, now the TV room. The new sofa is 1940's style and there are four highboy recliners in front of the sofa, two on either side of the fireplace. I ordered a stained glass fireplace screen too. The wall where the TV sat will become barrister bookshelves. I decided to use the barrister bookshelves because I will not have to dust the books and display items nearly as often.

Here is the living room as I was painting it last year.

The above picture was taken the day I evacuated for Hurricane Rita.

Here is the new furniture (arrived 11/24/06). This picture shows the fireplace, the centerpiece of the room, with the stained glass screen. The painting was painted by my dad and is of the ship channel behind my house. The 1840's style wood stove at the back was my only heat source in college. The phone is working a 1935 American Telephone & Telegraph Co. candlestick with Western Electric bell box.

Another angle in the room. In the back corner is a 1954 Stromberg-Carlson TV with mahogany cabinet. The TV parts are missing so I turned it into a liquor cabinet. The Space Clocks on top will be moved soon.

This angle looks toward the front entry of the house. I have several vintage cameras on and in the bookcases.

Another view of the fireplace. To the right on the floor is an 1893 GE Luminous Radiator. It uses three 12" long X 2 1/2" diameter light bulbs to produce heat. All three bulbs work. The mantel clock is an 1880's Seth Thomas.

Detail of the built-in. There are two sets of 1986 Texas Sesquicentennial glasses and one 1936 Texas Centennial glass on the shelves plus some souveniers from my travels to Europe.

This approximately 1930 Czechoslovakian crystal chandelier has an Art Deco cut to the glass that I have not seen before. One of the bobeches broke and I could not find a match, so I had to send it to a professional glass restoration shop. It was expensive but the results are nice. I used Restoration Services in Arlington, Massachussetts.
