1951 GE

1951 General Electric Combination Refrigerator/Freezer

I purchased this refrigerator at an auction for $2.50 while I was in college. It was avacado green. When I moved to Port Arthur, I decided to do a retro kitchen make over and this was my first project. I removed the doors and sent the chrome to the rechromers. I painted the refrigerator with automotive paint (this was also practice for painting my cars). I replaced the door gasket with a new one - not the same as the original but it works fine. This was the first GE model to use a magnetic door gasket (the Alnico door system) to hold the door closed instead of a latch. My refrigerator is missing the vegetable drawers. On top is a Sunbeam electric tea kettle.
