2bbl/4bbl Intake Manifold Compatibility

ive heard of replacing the stock 2bbl intake manifold/carb on a 1958 Special with a 4bbl manifold/carb from the large series. the manifold seems as simple as just bolting it on. obviously, the engine compression ratios on the small & large series are different; however, wasnt the 4bbl carb an option on the Special?
the carburetor throttle linkages & lines (fuel, etc.) would have to be altered to fit the larger carburetor, but the whole process seems feasible in my mind. has anyone done this to their 2bbl, or am i way off base?

This is a picture of the four barrel intake. Apparently these are very hard to come by.

Might be a little while. I just purchased a Rochester 4GC 4 barrel carb. I think it came off a Super. I have to get a rebuild kit for it and go from there.

Just received the 4 barrel carb. Ordered the rebuild kit, time to tear apart to soak and get it clean before the rebuild.
