I know that Bill Schoening posted some very useful information on transmission fluids on the Yahoo group. I plan to retrieve that info and post it in this forum in the near future.
In the meantime, there is a very good discussion on the subject of motor oil on The Lincoln Forum reguarding recent formulation changes that we need to be aware of. Here's the link:

Re: Motor Oil - What to use
What type of Motor Oil is recommended for the 1958 Buick Nailhead?

Re: Motor Oil
I've been using 10W-30. Eastwood has a good zinc additive that can be used for the motor and tranny.

Re: Motor Oil
I, too, have used 10W30 Valvoline ( of late with a ZDDP additive) for years in mine….no issues.
