58 estate wagon trim

I have a 1958 Estate Wagon 49D that is getting close to paint. Boy, what a lot of panels and welding! I am discovering that a few of the trim pieces that need to go back on are just too rusted to use and I do not have the skills to fabricate them. Perhaps someone can help me locate them. I require the two per side (one long, one short) trim pieces that wrap the rear wheel wells and hold down the outer sections of the deck lid.

I am also wondering if it would be "legit" to install a 58 roof rack on the car even though it did not come with one. If so, how does it attach?

I'm sure there will be other questions, but this should keep me going for a while.

Cheers from Alberta.
Michael.

I found the bits and pieces ... now another problem. I am wondering if the inner wheel wells that are visible in the trunk area of the wagon are covered in a fabric or just painted? And, did the 49D ever come with a roof rack? Cheers. Michael.

I believe that the roof rack was an available option on all wagons, but not standard equipment. As far as the inner wheel wells, I'm not sure on the '58 Buick, but my '57 Pontiac Transcontinental's inner wheel wells were vinyl covered.

Thank you for the information. Any idea on how the roof rack attaches? Would it be possible to get an email picture of your wheel covering? Cheers. Michael.

My station wagon needs a complete restoration. I don't think the vinyl is still on the wheel wells. My wagon was also the top of the line model, don't know if that makes a difference in how the wheel wells were finished. I can't get to the car right now to check. Sorry.

Still putting pieces back together. I am wondering if anyone can tell me what the sealer is between the front of the ventilator and the body of the door? There seems to be quite a gap. I have the main door weatherstripping and auxillery weatherstripping installed now. Also, is there a seal around the base of the ventilator system where it meets the outside of the door? I knew I should have taken more pictures! Cheers. Michael.
