Converting from Generator to Alternator

Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone here has converted from generator to Alternator? Although it was on my 58' Olds that the Generator died this evening, it is the same type and hook-up as the Buick. I may have enough parts to put another one together,but still contemplate a conversion.

If someone here has the time to explain the procedure it may be beneficial to all.

Lee,

Here is a link to a 1 wire alternator conversion for a 58 buick. (See diagram on webpage). I am planning to use this a starting point. We'll see how it turns out.

If authenticity is a factor, the generator can be converted to an alternator so that you can keep the original look in the engine compartment. There is information in this thread in the Modernizing section:
