Re: Motor Oil
I, too, have used 10W30 Valvoline ( of late with a ZDDP additive) for years in mine….no issues.

Re: Seized engine trouble
Water in a cylinder bore can be a big deal or maybe not....
A water jacket crack & subsequent intrusion in to the cylinder would indeed require a sleeve.
Are you sure the starter problem was not related to the stuck condition .....?
As suggested water can invade through the carb and run into an ...

Re: My Limited Four Door Project
Awesome job so far Adam...!
I was wondering if you had your Flight Pitch Dynaflow rebuilt....?
If so, by who and what sort of parts availability issues did you run into..?
Thanks!

Re: flight pitch column shifter in 59?
Hey Hotrod58er
You may not have to go to all that trouble.....
by getting an after market linkage kit, you may be able to simply alter the arc of travel of the
shift lever on the side of the trans. I suspect you'd get it to shift into all the gears, but the indicator
on the existing column would ...

Re: Rear U-Joint & Torque ball stuff
Here's the final resolution on the torque tube / u-joint / driveshaft issues on my 58 Roadmaster:
SInce the forward splined section of the driveshaft would not slide out of the torque ball
I decided to access the rear u-joint by removing the rear axle assembly from the back of the short torque tube ...

Hello gang
Posted this this morning on the AACA/Buick Club of America forums:
Having zero luck in freeing this axle up. Have tried every conceivable angle to withdraw it from the torque ball.
Any ideas are appreciated.....!

Re: Rear U-Joint & Torque ball stuff
Yes, I thought the pins might be an issue, too.
So, I checked them last night and they turn easily; indicating they are
not bearing much weight... I cut the heads off two new grade 8 bolts to make
the pins.
I did in fact put a ratchet strap and a comealong on the rear axle and
tightened the heck ...

REAR AXLE UPDATE!!!! Jan. 18, 2011
I'm stumped!!!
My car is a 39,000 mile all original car. No evidence of any previous damage or paint work.
It's in very nice condition.
I have a problem on removal of the entire rear axle assembly. It has had a noisy
rear U-joint and I decided to remove the rear ...

Re: Rear U-Joint & Torque ball stuff
Your 59 should pretty much be the same process....
I've gotten some good advice over at the Buick Club of America forums over at the AACA
on this same topic.
As soon as I get my current truck project (Buick engine of course!) in the paint booth, I'll be dismantling
the 58 Roadmaster's entire rear ...

Re: Variable pitch - How to use it ? Push start possible ?
Yep,
I can verify that push starting can be done effectively as described.
I had much experience in the mid 60's doing this when ever my battery would die..
(which was often!) I had 55's then upgraded to a pair of 58s.
Getting a willing "pusher" was getting to be a problem as my friends
all began ...

Re: UPDATE - Rear U-Joint & Torque ball stuff
Hello to the 58 Buick Brotherhood,
Well here it is two years later and I'm still working up the courage to attack this job; but with a new twist!
My "clunking" has gotten really bad now... So, the time has come to remove the
entire rear axle assembly from the car and assess what's what under there ...

HI Joe
And Merry Christmas!
Very cool car..glad you are getting around to finishing it off.
We'll all keep our eyes open for a deck lid...or a parts car for you.
Keep us posted on your progress.... Whose brake conversion kit did you use?
