Welcome to the forum, very nice project you have there.

That is an original optional mirror, fairly rare. Your restoration will be correct if you keep it. They were generally sold in pairs, one for each fender. My dealer parts book lists them thusly:

I've been using 10W-30. Eastwood has a good zinc additive that can be used for the motor and tranny.

Looks better up and off the ground. Good solid body to work with, the big rear chrome behind the rear wheels looks good but I can't see the bottom edge - commonly rusted out, as are the lower rear bumper rails. If these are good on your car, you are ahead of the game.

Do you have the lower trim ...

You would have to use an Ohm meter to test continuity from one end of a wire to the other end on the other side of the block.

I use a long screw driver and a hammer to get the nut off. It is not easy but it works.
